For almost fifty years, this family-run business has been steadily evolving through various stages and now includes a world-class Event Centre with a capacity of over 4,000 people, two Hotel complexes, multi storey car parking facilities and retail outlets.

Appropriately, one of the three bars in the new venue is called ‘The Memory Bar’ and it will showcase the rich history of what will become not just the premier venue in Connaught, but one that is able to proudly match any on the island.

Donnacha Roche, Venue and Operations Manager of the Royal, explains “Here in Castlebar, patrons will receive excellent value for money in a uniquely hospitable and Irish atmosphere. At the same time, we will be one of only a handful of venues in the market which can and will be able to cater for the biggest acts in the world.

There is also a huge effect from an economic point of view. In the past we have always sought to encourage business to Castlebar both in the development of retail outlets and in developing a unique tourist attraction. We hope to continue to do this more in the future and bring all the resources of Castlebar and West Mayo together to become a tourist destination which can offer the tourist a varied and exciting package. On a regular basis, we will have approximately 150 persons employed here, not to mention the business being brought to the on-site hotels. On top of this, the spin off from bringing more people to the Royal Castlebar benefits all walks of trade, in effect “What’s good for the Royal is good for the Town”
